Google has officially confirmed that by the end of January 2026 it will discontinue support for Gmailify and the “Check mail from other accounts” (POP3 email fetching) feature. This change affects anyone using Gmail as a central inbox for multiple email accounts, such as Outlook, Yahoo, custom domain email, or cPanel-based mailboxes.

If settings are not adjusted in time, Gmail will no longer receive new messages from these external accounts. Existing emails will remain, but the flow of new messages will stop.

What is official about the date – and what is circulating in practice

In its official documentation, Google states only that the shutdown will take place in January 2026, without specifying an exact date. In practice, however, January 20, 2026 is frequently mentioned among IT administrators and partners as the unofficial cutoff date when the features may be fully disabled.

Our recommendation: treat January 20, 2026 as the effective deadline, as Google often phases out services gradually and without additional warnings.

Which Gmail features are being discontinued

Google is discontinuing Gmailify, which allowed Gmail’s advanced features to be used with external email accounts, as well as POP3 email fetching, which enabled Gmail to automatically import new messages from other mailboxes.

Why this can be a serious issue

Email may still arrive at the original mail server, but you will no longer see it in Gmail. There may be no warning or error message, which means important inquiries, orders, or business emails can easily be missed.

Available options after January 2026 — and how we can help

After POP3 fetching and Gmailify are discontinued, an alternative solution is required. This can include email forwarding to Gmail, a migration to Google Workspace, a migration to Microsoft 365 (Office 365), or classic email hosting accessed via IMAP.

IMAP will remain supported, but it does not replace Gmail’s POP3 fetching in the web interface. If you want the transition completed without email loss or service interruptions, you can contact us. We handle migrations to Google Workspace or Microsoft 365, email hosting setup or changes, forwarding configuration, IMAP access, and email security records (SPF, DKIM, DMARC).

Together, we can review your current setup and advise whether Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, or classic email hosting is the best solution for you.

Conclusion

Google will discontinue Gmail POP3 fetching and Gmailify in January 2026. If you use Gmail to collect email from multiple accounts, timely action is essential.

Contact us and we will ensure your email continues to work smoothly after this change.
